Blog Candy und Valentinstag

Hallo Ihr Lieben, heute möchte ich Euch noch einmal herzlich dazu einladen, bei unserem Blog Candy mitzumachen. Dazu braucht Ihr nur eines der beiden Bilder hier im Post zu mopsen, auf Eurem Blog zu posten und auf unseren Blog zu verlinken. Bald ist es soweit, es ist wieder Valentinstag. Einige feiern den 14. Februar als Tag der Liebenden, andere ignorieren ihn, weil der Tag kommerzialisiert wird. Egal ob Ihr den Valentinstag feiert oder nicht - für alle interessant sein dürfte seine Entstehungsgeschichte.


Der Valentinstag geht auf einen oder mehrere christliche Märtyrer zurück (es kommen mehrere Märtyrer mit dem Namen Valentin in Frage). Welcher Valentinus es auch war, der Überlieferung nach starb er durch Enthauptung. Im Jahre 469 wurde dann der Valentinstag für die ganze Kirche eingeführt - es gibt den Valentistag also tatsächlich schon länger als dass es Blumenhändler gibt. Der Valentinstag wird hauptsächlich im englischsprachigen Raum gefeiert. In Deutschland wurde der Valentinstag nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg durch die US-Soldaten wieder bekannt. Und jetzt kommen wohl die Floristen und die Süßwarenindustrie ins Spiel, die den Valentinstag als gute Gelegenheit erkannten, um gute Geschäfte zu machen.

Soon, it's going to be Valentine's Day. Some of you might celebrate the day of the lovers, others might ignore it because it is being commercialized. No matter if you celebrate it or not - the history of the origins of Valentine's Day might be of interest for all of you.


Valentine's Day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine, who has been martyred through decapitation. In 496, Valentine's Day has been established for all Christians - so this day came into existence before there were any flower shops. Valentine's Day was mostly celebrated in Great Britain and English-speaking pioneers brought this tradition to America. After World War II, Valentine's Day was revived in Germany by US soldiers. And this is the moment, when florists and the sugar confectionery industry came into it and tried to make big profit out of Valentine's Day.
